Green Gaels open senior rugby season with win

GUELPH –The defending champion Guelph CVI Green Gaels opened the District 4/10 high school senior boys’ rugby season with a 24-10 victory over the Erin Raiders Tuesday at Varsity Field.

Sam Steinhauser scored a try and kicked two converts for the Gaels while single tries were added by Ben James, Donny Smart and Aaron Pacha.

Moses Santos and Juston McLaughlin each had a try for Erin.

 

Junior Boys

Guelph CVI 52 Erin 0

The Gaels crushed the Raiders in the season opener for both teams.

Brandon Inlthavaly scored a pair of tries for GCVI while Troy Ellis had a try and a convert. Getting one try apiece were Kevin Hu, Jimmy Huynh, Eric Chea, Trey Gauvereau, Gabe Tersigni, John Wegman and Vinry Manotham.

 

Girls

Erin 25 Guelph CVI 12

The Raiders prevented it being a sweep of the tripleheader at Varsity Field.

Jessica Gravelle and Kyla Warren each scored two tries for Erin while Savannah Sketchley scored the other one.

Leksi Dawes and Lou Meloche had a try apiece for GCVI and Hanna Gordon kicked a convert.

The result leaves Erin at 3-1-0 and the Gaels at 2-2-0.
