Gryphon field hockey women blank Western

GUELPH — The Guelph Gryphons completed the home portion of their OUA women’s field hockey schedule Wednesday with a 4-0 victory over the Western Mustangs.

The Gryphs scored two goals in each half for the win.

Stephanie Kingsley connected for the eventual game-winning goal in the 32nd minute before Olivia Lane hit for her league-high 13th goal of the season two minutes later.

Emily Hong gave Guelph its third goal in the 45th minute before Katherine MacMillan completed the scoring with her 11th of the season.

Morgan Kelley recorded her fourth shutout of the season.

With two games to go, the Gryphs lead the league at 8-0-2. The Toronto Varsity Blues are second at 8-1-0 and York Lions are third at 7-1-2.

The Gryphs are to play the Varsity Blues at Toronto Oct. 20 in a game that will likely decide first place. Guelph defeated Toronto 4-3 at Toronto Sept. 24.

The Gryphs are to complete their regular season Oct. 23 with a game against the Queen’s Gaels (2-6-2) at Toronto.
