Gryphon field hockey women triple Queen’s, finish second
TORONTO — The Guelph Gryphons wrapped up their OUA women’s field hockey league’s regular season in second place following a 6-2 triumph over the Queen’s Gaels Sunday at the University of Toronto’s Back Campus Fields.
The Gryphs scored three times in 14 minutes in the first half as they built a 4-1 lead by the intermission.
Olivia Lane scored twice for the Gryphs while single goals were added by Lauren Dewar, Olivia Finch, Katherine MacMillan and Emily Hong.
Justina Johl and Taylor Herrington tallied for Queen’s.
Morgan Kelley picked up the win in the Guelph net.
Lane finished as the leading goal scorer in the league with 17 goals while MacMillan was third with 12.
The Gryphs advance to the OUA championship tournament to be played at London this weekend. Guelph is to open the tournament with a 3 p.m. game Friday against the McGill Martlets (0-11-1).
