Gryphon hockey men give Brock the slip

ST. CATHARINES – A goal by Todd Winder in the second period proved to be the winner as the Guelph Gryphons edged the Brock Badgers 2-1 in OUA men’s hockey league play Saturday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.

Marc Stevens had opened the scoring for the Gryphs 44 seconds into the game.

Josh McFadden, Manny Gialedakis and Scott Simmonds collected assists for Guelph in the game.

Brock’s Sammy Banga had tied the score just under three minutes after Guelph’s first goal. Getting assists for Brock were Connor Brown and Jeff Corbett.

The Gryphs outshot Brock 41-40 despite being outshot 15-6 in the third.

Andrew Masters picked up the win in the Guelph net while Clint Windsor took the loss for Brock.

Guelph leads the West Division at 13-4-1 and Brock is fifth at 9-6-3.

The Gryphs are to play the ninth-place Waterloo Warriors (5-10-3) Thursday at Waterloo’s Columbia Icefields arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
