Gryphon hockey men topple Toronto on Aggies Night

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons celebrated their Aggie Night Game with a 4-1 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues in OUA men’s hockey play Thursday night at the Gryphon Centre.

A pair of goals 40 seconds apart late in the third period secured the win for the Gryphs in front of a crowd of 745.

After Marc Stevens scored twice in the first period for the Gryphs, the Blues came back in the third on a goal by Dean Klomp.

However, the Gryphs got that one back two minutes later when Seth Swenson scored for the hosts and Marc Stevens finished his hat trick with the final goal of the game 40 seconds later. Josh McFadden, Todd Winder, Manny Gialedakis, Trevor Morbeck, Mark Raycroft and Michael Stevens each had an assist.

Curtis Harvey picked up an assist for Toronto.

The Gryphs outshot Toronto 36-17 and went 1-for-2 on the power play while Toronto was held scoreless on its only power play.

Jason Da Silva made 16 saves for the win for Guelph while Frederic Foulem made 32 saves for the Blues.

Guelph is tied for fourth in the West Division at 3-3-1 while Toronto is ninth at 2-4-0.
