Gryphon hockey men’s win streak halted by Brock

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons saw their five-game winning streak in OUA men’s hockey league play come to an end Friday night when they were edged 3-1 by the Brock Badgers at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.

The Badgers scored the lone goal of the first period before a scoreless second. The teams hit for a goal apiece in the first four minutes of the third before Brock completed the scoring just shy of the final period’s eight-minute mark.

Cody Thompson fired home the goal for Guelph while Max McCutcheon and Mathieu Henderson assisted on the goal.

Ryan Purvis, Chris Maniccia and Cosimo Fontana each had a goal for Brock while assists went to Patrick Volpe, Brandon O’Quinn, Sammy Banga, Ayden MacDonald, Dexter Weber and Maniccia.

The Gryphs outshot Brock 33-28, but were scoreless on three power plays while the Badgers went 1-for-7.

Andrew Masters was charged with the loss in net for Guelph while Clint Windsor picked up the win for Brock.

Guelph leads the West Division at 16-5-1 while Brock is fifth at 11-6-4.

Next game for the Gryphs is Friday when they’re to tangle with the Toronto Varsity Blues (7-13-1) at Toronto’s Varsity Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
