Gryphon hockey women blank Laurier
WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphons posted their second consecutive win in OUA women’s hockey play as they blanked the Laurier Golden Hawks 4-0 at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex Sunday night.
The two wins follow two consecutive losses for the defending OUA champion Gryphons.
After a scoreless first period Sunday, the Gryphs scored twice in each of the second and third periods for the win.
Valerie Lamenta stopped 18 shots for the Gryphs while Cohen Myers faced 46 shots in the Laurier net.
The Gryphs had their power play working as they went 3-for-5 with a manpower advantage and they held Laurier scoreless on three power plays.
Kaitlin Lowy led Guelph with a pair of goals while Molly Crossman and Laura Crowdis also scored. Single assists were awarded to Kristen Jay, Emma Forcey, Crowdis, Katherine Bailey and Cyan Roepcke.
Guelph improves to 3-0-3-0 with the win while Laurier tumbles to 0-0-4-1 with the loss.
The Gryphs have a pair of home games against northern opponents at the Gryphon Centre on the weekend as they’re to host the Laurentian Voyageurs (2-0-2-1) of Sudbury Saturday at 2 p.m. and the Nipissing Lakers (2-0-2-1) of North Bay Sunday at 2 p.m.
