Gryphon hockey women blanked by Waterloo

WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphons saw their 10-game OUA women’s hockey league winning streak come to an end Sunday afternoon when theyw ere blanked 3-0 by the Waterloo Warriors at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.

Waterloo scored once in the first period and twice in the second for the victory.

Maryn Caragata, Carolyn Burke and Marissa Redmond scored the goals for the Warriors.

Waterloo went 1-for-3 on its power play while the Gryphs were scoreless on four power plays.

Taylor Reimer stopped 25 shots for the shutout win for Waterloo while Guelph’s Valerie Lamenta faced 19 shots.

The Gryphs, who finish their regular season with a pair of home games next weekend, will finish either first or second in the league.

Guelph sits atop the league at 14-4-3-1 while the Nipissing Lakers are second at 13-3-3-3, Toronto Varsity Blues are third at 13-2-7-0 and Waterloo is fourth at 11-2-7-2.

The Gryphs are to host the Windsor Lancers (10-1-9-2) Saturday at 2 p.m. and Nipissing Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Gryphon Centre.
