Gryphon hockey women nip winless Windsor
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons scored twice in the final eight minutes of the game to edge the Windsor Lancers 2-1 in OUA women’s hockey league play Friday night at the Gryphon Centre.
Sydney Dobbin had opened the scoring with a power-play goal for Windsor at 13:53 of the second. Ashley Maitre and Amy Maitre assisted on the play.
The Gryphs pulled even when Katherine Bailey scored at 12:58 of the third. Katie Mikkelsen and Cyan Roepcke drew assists on the goal.
Kelly Gribbons fired home the winner a minute and 37 seconds later with a goal set up by Claire Merrick.
Aurore Beaulieu made 13 saves for the win in the Guelph net.
Molly Jenkins had 23 saves for Windsor.
The Gryphs were scoreless on six power plays while Windsor went 1-for-4 on the power play.
Guelph improves to 2-0-3-0 with the win while the Lancers have lost all five of their league games this season.
Next game for the Gryphs is Sunday when they’re to play the Laurier Golden Hawks (0-0-4-1) at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex starting at 7:07 p.m.
