Gryphon hockey women nipped by Brock

ST. CATHARINES – Kiana Tobia’s goal less than five and a half minutes into the third period lifted the Brock Badgers to a 1-0 win over the Guelph Gryphons in OUA women’s hockey league play Saturday at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.

Kailey Peirson and Annie Berg each had an assist on the game’s only goal.

Jensen Murphy stopped 30 shots to get the shutout for Brock. Valerie Lamenta stopped 23 shots for Guelph.

Neither team scored on its power play – Brock having three power plays and Guelph four.

Brock is second in the 13-team league at 5-2-2-1 while the Gryphs are tied for fourth at 5-1-4-0.

The Gryphs are to complete the 2017 portion of their season this week with a pair of home games at the Gryphon Centre. They’re to host the Waterloo Warriors (5-1-1-0) Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Western Mustangs (5-1-2-2) Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
