Gryphon men tied for lead at OUA golf championships
WINDSOR — The Guelph Gryphons are tied for the team lead in the men’s category following Monday’s first round of the OUA golf championships at the Ambassador Golf Club.
The Gryphon men’s team of Marc-Anthony Manion, Joshua Polisuk, Nicholas Striker, Nicholas Freeman and Brandon Freeman had an overalls core of even-par 284 in the opening round of the two-round tournament. They’re tied for the lead with the Western Mustangs and Toronto Varsity Blues while the host Windsor Lancers are fourth at 287.
Individually, Gordon Gibson of Toronto led after a round of 4-under 67. MacKenzie Dasti of UOIT and Nick Quesnel of Laurentian were tied for second at 68 and Polisuk, Manion, Austin Ryan of Laurier, Wesley Kwok of Ottawa and Graham Byrne of Windsor were tied for fourth at 69. Striker was in a tie for 12th at 71, Nicholas Freeman in a tie for 39th at 75 and Brandon Freeman in a tie for 45th at 76.
The Gryphon women’s team of Olivia Lee, Madeline DeCorso, Hilary Cameron and Lindsay Crawford was ninth at 281.
Toronto led the women’s standings at 12-over 225 while the Waterloo Warriors were second at 229 and Queen’s Gaels third at 238.
Ana Peric of Toronto led the individual women’s standings after a round of 2-over 73. Robyn Campbell of Queen’s was second at 75.
For the Gryphons, Lee was 23rd at 90, DeCorso 32nd at 95, Cameron 35th at 96 and Crawford 37th at 99.
