Gryphon rugby men hold Waterloo down

WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphons held the Waterloo Warriors scoreless after the fifth minute as they ran to a 43-5 victory in OUA men’s rugby play Friday night at the Columbia Icefields pitch.

Brandon MacLeod led the Gryphs with three tries and four converts while Erich Milne had one of the other tries.

Mitch Voralek had the try for Waterloo.

The Gryphs were without fly half John Sheridan, flanker Marcello Wainwright and centre Kyle Lagasca who are with the Ontario Arrows for a friendly match with the Glendale Merlins in Colorado. Also on the Ontario team that is looking to turn pro are former Gryphs hooker Eric Howard, fullback Jon West and scrum half Mario Van Der Westhuizen.

The Gryphs are to tangle with the McMaster Marauders (1-0 with a game Saturday at Trent) Sept. 17 at McMaster at 2 pm.
