Gryphon rugby men shut out Laurier
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons bounced back from their first loss of the OUA men’s rugby season with a 52-0 trouncing of the Laurier Golden Hawks Friday night at Varsity Field.
While the Gryphs had enough points to win at halftime, they pulled away in the second half with three tries in a span of four minutes that turned a 19-0 halftime lead into a 40-0 advantage.
The win followed a 34-26 loss to the Queen’s Gaels at Kingston last weekend.
Erich Milne had three tries for the Gryphs while John Sheridan had a try and six conversions. Kyle Lagasca, Andrew Douglas, Jeremy Seed and Chris Grey each added a try.
The Gryphs are at 5-1 with two games remaining in their regular season. The loss dropped Laurier to 3-3.
The Gryphs are to play the Trent Excalibur (0-6) at Peterborough Oct. 14 and host the Western Mustangs (4-2) Oct. 20 at 8 p.m.
Guelph is also to host the Canadian university men’s rugby championship tournament Nov. 16 to 19
