Gryphon rugby men topple Western

LONDON, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons made it two wins in as many outings in the OUA men’s rugby league this season as they ran to a 36-14 victory over the Western Mustangs Sunday at Western’s Alumni Field.

Western scored the opening try of the game, but the Gryphs responded with four consecutive tries and led 22-7 at halftime.

Marcello Wainwright connected for two tries for the Gryphs while Erich Milne, Andrew Douglas and Mario Van Der Westhuizen each had one try while Van Der Westhuizen also had two converts.

The Gryphs and Queen’s Gaels lead the league at 2-0 while Waterloo Warriors, McMaster Marauders, RMC Paladins, Laurier Golden Hawks, Brock Badgers and Western are each at 1-1. Toronto Varsity Blues and Trent Excalibur trail at 0-2.

The Gryphs are to play RMC at Kingston Saturday at 3 p.m.
