Gryphon soccer men dump Algoma
SAULT STE. MARIE – The Guelph Gryphons broke out for a 7-0 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds in OUA men’s soccer play Sunday at Superior Heights Park.
The Gryphs hit for three goals in the first half and added four in the second half.
Jace Kotsopoulos and Mitchell Lefebvre hit for two goals apiece while single goals were netted by Youssef Zaghloul, Marko Vidovich and Atchu Siva. Zaghloul picked up two assists while Kotsopoulos had one.
Kotsopoulos leads the league with 10 goals.
Simon Norgrave made four saves for the shutout.
The Gryphs outshot Algoma 36-8 including a 20-2 advantage in the second half when the Thunderbirds played most of the half a man down. Of those shots, Guelph had 13 reach the net.
Guelph leads the West Division at 6-1-1 while Algoma trails at 1-5-0.
The Gryphs are to play the York Lions (5-2-0) Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
