Gryphon soccer men ousted by McMaster

HAMILTON – There won’t be a repeat champion in OUA men’s soccer this year.

Dusan Kovacevic’s goal in the 29th minute proved to be the only goal of the game as the McMaster Marauders edged the defending champion Guelph Gryphons 1-0 in quarter-final play Sunday at McMaster’s Ron Joyce Stadium.

Sasha Ricciuti assisted on the goal.

Jesse Di Domenico made four saves for the clean sheet for McMaster. Simon Norgrove was in net for Guelph.

The Gryphs took seven shots in the game, five of them coming in the second half. The Marauders took four shots, all in the first half.

McMaster advances to the league’s Final Four tournament at York Nov. 3 and 4. Others in the tournament are the Ryerson Rams, York Lions and Carleton Ravens.
