Gryphon soccer men suffer first loss of season
HAMILTON – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered a pair of goals, both by Sasha Ricciuti, in the final three minutes of the game as they were doubled 4-2 by the McMaster Marauders in OUA men’s soccer play Sunday afternoon.
The loss was the first of the season for the Gryphs.
The score was tied 2-2 at the end of the first half and that score remained until Ricciuti’s final two goals gave him a hat trick on the game. Anand Sergeant scored the other goal for McMaster in the second minute.
The Gryphs, who received goals from Johnson Amoo and Josh Seguin, never led in the match.
McMaster outshot the Gryphs 8-7.
Giacinto DiDomenico picked up the win in net for McMaster while Erik Hermanns was in net for Guelph.
The Gryphs lead the West Division at 4-1-1 while McMaster and the York Lions are tied for second at 4-2-0. The Western Mustangs are fourth at 3-0-1.
The Gryphs are to play a pair of games against the Algoma Thunderbirds (1-3-0) next weekend.
