Gryphon soccer men vault to top of West Division

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons moved back to the top of the OUA men’s soccer league’s West Division standings with a 2-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors Sunday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

The Gryphs scored both their goals in the first half as Willem Grant scored in the ninth minutes and Johnson Amoo tallied in the 25th minute. Assists were awarded to Youssef Zaghloul and Zachary Rushe.

Simon Norgrave made two saves for the shutout.

Guelph outshot Waterloo 10-3.

The Gryphs lead the West at 7-2-1, but lead the deadlocked McMaster Marauders and York Lions, both 7-2-0, by one point. McMaster and York each have a game in hand.

Waterloo fell to 1-6-2 with the loss.

The Gryphs are to host the Laurier Golden Hawks (3-6-1) at the Gryphon Soccer Complex Sunday at 3:15 p.m.
