Gryphon soccer women blank Waterloo with goal in each half

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons scored once in each half to drop the Waterloo Warriors 2-0 in OUA women’s soccer play Friday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

Tori Hinchliffe hit in the 22nd minute for the Gryphs while Jenna Holtz added the other goal in the 64th minute. Danielle Sauve set up Hinchliffe’s goal.

The Gryphs outshot Waterloo 6-2 in each half while Libby Brenneman picked up her seventh shutout of the season.

The Guelph side has clinched a playoff berth.

The Gryphs lead the West Division at 8-1-3. Western Mustangs (7-0-4) is second, but has a game in hand on the Gryphs. McMaster Marauders (5-3-3) are third and the York Lions (5-3-2) are fourth.

Top six in each division qualify for the playoffs and the top two receive byes in the divisional quarter-finals.

The Gryphs are to complete the home portion of their regular season Friday with a game against the York Lions at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. Game time is 6 p.m.
