Gryphon softball women win one of four at home

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons won one of four games played at home in the Ontario Intercollegiate Women’s Fastpitch Association on the weekend.

The Gryphs split a doubleheader with the Brock Badgers Friday night, winning the second game 8-7 after dropping the first 7-5.

Saturday, the Gryphs were swept by the Laurier Golden Hawks who won 12-2 and 10-6.

Guelph is eighth in the 11-team league at 4-8 while Laurier is fifth at 8-6 and Brock sixth at 7-7. Top eight qualify for the championship tournament to be hosted by Laurier Oct. 13 to 15.

The Gryphs have two more doubleheaders at home this weekend as they’re to host the league-leading Western Mustangs (14-0) Friday and Windsor Lancers (6-6) Sunday. Friday’s first game at the University of Guelph diamond is 7 p.m. while Sunday’s first game is to start at 11 a.m.
