Gryphon volleyball men edged by McMaster

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons saw their record in OUA men’s volleyball league play drop to the .500 winning percentage level when they suffered a 3-1 loss to the McMaster Marauders Saturday night at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

McMaster won 25-18, 25-20, 25-27, 27-25.

Josh Green collected 12 kills, two aces, five digs and a block for the Gryphs while Zach Newman had 11 kills and seven digs and Matt Baxter gathered nine kills, an ace and nine digs. Jackson Paterson had five kills, two assists, a dig and a block while Sam Nothnagel had four kills and a block and Sam Kloke had 34 assists, two aces, six digs and a block.

Brandon Koppers had 19 kills, an assist, an ace and 14 digs for McMaster and was followed by Andrew Richards with nine kills, an assist, two aces, seven digs and three blocks, Bennett Swan with seven kills, an ace, three digs and five blocks, Peter Khodkevych with 10 kills, two digs and a block, Matt Passalent with eight kills, an assist and three digs and David Doty with 43 assists, an ace, four digs and a block.

While the Gryphs fell to 2-2 with the loss, McMaster improved to 2-1.

The Gryphs are to play their first of four straight road games Friday when they tangle with the Queen’s Gaels (1-0) at Kingston starting at 8 p.m.
