Gryphon volleyball men spoil Brock’s opener

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons slipped by the Brock Badgers 3-1 in OUA men’s volleyball play Friday night at Brock’s Bob Davis Gymnasium.

The Gryphs won 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19.

Matt Baxter led the Gryphs with 17 kills, four aces, five digs and three blocks while Sam Nothnagel had nine kills, a dig and four blocks. Jackson Paterson had seven kills and an ace, Josh Green four kills, three aces and 10 digs, Zach Newman six kills, an assist, eight digs and a block, Sam Kloke 35 assists and 10 digs and Ben Kissack three assists and six digs.

For Brock, Peter Schnabel had 13 kills, an ace, six digs and a block and Logan House contributed 14 kills, two assists, an ace and eight digs. Alex Carter added seven kills, an assist, three aces and nine digs while Marcelo Correa had three kills, 36 assists and five digs and Felipe Costa had an assist and 14 digs.

The Gryphs improved to 2-1 with the win over Brock in the season opener for the Badgers.

Guelph is to host the McMaster Marauders (1-1) at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre Saturday at 8 p.m.
