Gryphon volleyball men sweep by Toronto Varsity Blues

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons kept their place atop the OUA men’s volleyball league standings Thursday when they swept the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-0 at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

While it was a sweep for the Gryphs, it was three close set wins for the locals as they won 26-24, 25-22 and 25-20.

Jonathan Pickett had 16 kills, three blocks and three digs for the Gryphs while Alexander Odle had 10 kills and Joshua Glasbergen had eight kills and five blocks. Thomas Pugsley had two aces and 39 assists while Jacob Bailey had an ace and three blocks, Jack Richards had an assist, Cameron Chadwick had 10 digs and Daniel Pickett had an assist and six digs.

Hunter Arulpragasam had 15 kills, two aces and six digs for Toronto while Jayden Talsma had two blocks and six digs and Davis Young had 22 assists.

The Gryphs had 44 kills, four aces, eight blocks, 41 assists, 30 digs and a .344 kill percentage in the match while the Blues had 36 kills, four aces, two blocks, 33 assists, 30 digs and a .147 kill percentage.

The result leaves the Gryphs at 8-2 and Toronto at 3-4. The Gryphs are to play the York Lions (1-5) at York Friday at 8 p.m.
