Gryphon volleyball men swept aside by Queen’s

KINGSTON – The Guelph Gryphons were swept by the Queen’s Gaels 3-0 in OUA men’s volleyball play Friday night.

The Gaels won 25-23, 25-15, 25-15 to hand the Gryphs their second consecutive loss.

The result leaves Queen’s at 2-1 and the Gryphs at 2-3.

Matt Baxter led the Gryphs with 11 kills, two aces, four digs and two blocks while Josh Green had five kills, nine digs and one block and Sam Nothnagel had five kills and three digs. Jackson Paterson had three kills, one dig and three blocks, Jared Harris had four kills and one dig, Zach Newman had two kills and three digs, Sam Kloke had 20 assists and three digs and Daiken Edwards had nine assists and one dig.

Markus Trence had 15 kills, two aces, four digs and four blocks for Queen’s while Jack Peckham had nine kills and five blocks, Mitch Neuert had five kills, four aces, nine digs and one block, Malcolm Prentice had seven kills, two assists, three digs and four blocks and Zane Grossinger had 29 assists, five digs and three blocks.

The Gryphs are to play the RMC Paladins (1-3) at the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre Saturday at 8 p.m.
