Gryphon volleyball women downed by Brock

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons were handed their third loss in as many OUA women’s volleyball outings this season when they were defeated 3-1 by the Brock Badgers Friday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

The Badgers won 25-23, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23.

Hazel Atkins had 15 kills, four aces and 13 digs for the Gryphs while Logan Garrick had nine kills, two assists, six aces and 10 digs, Laura Duncan eight kills, an ace and seven digs, Jessica Chung seven kills, an ace and seven digs, Jessica Gormley six kills, an ace and seven digs and Alex Curran two kills, 37 assists, two aces and 15 digs.

Laura Condotta led Brock with 12 kills, an ace, 19 digs and the match’s only block while Darby Taylor had eight kills, two assists, three aces and seven digs. Brianna Hamilton followed with nine kills and six digs while Tori Carroll had five kills, two aces and a dig, Hannah Davenhill had five kills, 32 assists, two aces and 15 digs, Renee Helmer had six kills, an ace and 11 digs and Grace Edwards had three kills, four digs.

The match was the season opener for the Badgers.

The Gryphs are to host the McMaster Marauders (1-1) Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
