Gryphon volleyball women edged by Queen’s

KINGSTON – The Guelph Gryphons suffered a 3-2 loss to the Queen’s Gaels in OUA women’s volleyball play Friday night at the ARC Main Gym.

The loss was the fifth in as many league outings for the Gryphs while the Gaels improved their record to 3-1 with the 25-11, 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-7 win.

The Gaels were big on their serves as they had 17 aces to six for the Gryphs. Queen’s also had 58 kills, 19 more than the Gryphs.

Jessica Gormley had eight kills, one dig and seven blocks for the Gryphs while Michaela Hellinga had 10 kills, two assists, four digs and one block, Jessica Chung had four kills, two assists, three aces, seven digs and two blocks and Logan Garrick had eight kills, one assist and three digs. Lisa Wedel had three kills, one assist, two aces, two digs and four blocks and Alex Curran had two kills, 29 assists, one ace, 11 digs and six blocks.

Shannon Neville had 14 kills, one assist, four aces, nine digs and three blocks for Queen’s while Julia Wiercigroch had 12 kills, three assists, two aces, six digs and four blocks, Olivia Van Baaren had nine kills, one assist, two aces, five digs and two blocks, Natalie Crews had six kills, two assists, one ace, two digs and six blocks, Caroline Livingston had six kills, one assist and two aces and Sierra Hardy had five kills, 39 assists, two aces and four digs.

The Gryphs are to play the RMC Paladins (1-4) Saturday at the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre. Game time is 6 p.m.
