Gryphon volleyball women swept by McMaster

HAMILTON – The Guelph Gryphons were swept 3-0 by the McMaster Marauders in OUA women’s volleyball play Friday night at McMaster’s Burridge Gymnasium.

The sixth-ranked Marauders won 25-17, 26-24, 25-16.

The Gryphs never led in the first or third sets and were up 12-10 in the second set before McMaster rallied for the win.

Longest streak of consecutive points for Guelph was four in the second set that allowed them to go ahead 11-7. As for the Marauders, their longest stretch of consecutive points was also four, something they did three times in the match.

The Gryphs finished the match with 31 kills, three aces, 40 digs and six blocks while McMaster had 50 kills, four aces, 44 digs and six blocks.

Michaela Hellinga had nine kills and three digs while Jessica Gormley had five kills, three digs and two blocks. Libby Donevan had five kills, a dig and two blocks and Alex Curran had two aces, four digs and 26 assists.

Hailey Kranics had 14 kills and four blocks for McMaster while Aleks Arsovic had 10 kills, an ace and 12 digs. Maicee Soensen had nine kills, an ace and two digs and Carly Heath had a kill and 12 digs. Caitlin Genovy had two kills, an ace, three digs, a block and 44 assists.

McMaster leads the West Division at 9-1 while the Gryphs are seventh at 2-9.

The Gryphs are to host the Brock Badgers (3-6) Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
