Gryphon volleyballers in preseason split with Toronto

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons split their final OUA volleyball preseason matches against the Toronto Varsity Blues Friday night at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

The men won 3-0, taking the sets 27-25, 25-10, 25-22 while the women lost 3-1. Toronto’s women won the sets 25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 27-25.

The Gryphs are to begin their regular seasons at home Friday night against the Western Mustangs. The women are to play at 6 p.m. and the men are to follow at 8 p.m.

The teams are also at home the following night against the Windsor Lancers.

The Gryphon men were bronze medalists last season after defeating the Ryerson Rams 3-2 in the bronze-medal match. Guelph had finished second in the West Division at 12-5.

The Gryphon women were knocked out of the league’s quarter-finals with a 3-0 loss to Ryerson. Guelph had finished third in the West Division at 12-7.
