Gryphons Provincial South women downed by league leaders

HAMILTON – The Guelph Gryphons were dropped 5-0 by Hamilton Sparta in Ontario Women’s Soccer League Provincial South play Sunday night at McMaster University.

Jade Smith led Hamilton Sparta with a pair of goals while single goals were added by Amy Froome, Emma Hoerner and Alexandra Riganelli.

Jayashree Pathak was credited with the shutout.

Hamilton Sparta leads the league at 3-1-0 while the Gryphons are at 1-3-1.

The loss followed a 3-2 setback to BWRSL Tigers at the Gryphon Soccer Complex last Thursday.

Makayla Pearl and Erika McFarlane scored for Guelph in that game while Amy Lintack had two goals for BWRSL and Alexandra Petermann had the other one.

The Gryphons are to host Niagara United Blue (0-1-1) Tuesday at 9 p.m. at the Gryphons Soccer Complex.

 

Provincial U21 South

Guelph Gryphons and Niagara United fought to a 1-1 standoff in league play at the Kalar Sports Park in Niagara Falls last Thursday night.

Kristin Kohlmeier scored the goal for Guelph while Kara Latham had the goal for Niagara United.

The result leaves the Gryphons at 1-1-2 and Niagara United at 1-2-1.

The Gryphons are to play London Football Academy (3-1-0) Tuesday at 9 p.m. at North London Stadium.
