Gryphons U21 Provincial South men edged by league leaders

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons were edged 3-2 by league-leading GPS Academy in Ontario Soccer League U21 Provincial South play Thursday at Centennial Bowl.

Adrian Atiyeh and Alessandro Pereira hit for the goals for the Gryphons.

Gianluca Spadafora, Julian Ovalle and Hamzah Sabeeh had a goal apiece for GPS Academy.

GPS Academy leads the nine-team league at 12-1-0 while the Gryphons are ninth at 1-10-0.

The Gryphons have five games left on their schedule starting with a match against the Burlington Bayhawks (1-10-1) Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Centennial Bowl.

The other four games are road games as they’re to play the Ancaster Titans (8-3-1) Saturday at 1 p.m., North Mississauga (3-8-0) Aug. 16 at 9 p.m. and Niagara Falls Titans (3-6-2) Aug. 26 at 4 p.m. They also have a postponed game against Hamilton Sparta (6-5-0) to reschedule.
