Gryphs Black drop Waterloo United in OWSL U21
GUELPH – Guelph Gryphons Black dropped Waterloo United 9-1 in Ontario Women’s Soccer League Provincial U21 South play Thursday night at Eastview Park.
Larissa Pirillo struck for four goals for Gryphs Black while Andrea Plagos added a hat trick. Getting one goal apiece were Alisa Cogan and Brittney Crawford.
Daniella D’Arsie had the lone goal for Waterloo.
With the win Gryphs Black improve to 2-6-0 while the loss was the ninth in as many league outings for Waterloo.
Next league match for Gryphs Black is Thursday when they’re to battle Guelph Gryphons Red (3-3-0) at the Gryphon Soccer Complex at 9 p.m.
Gryphs Black have four league games to go with three of them in Guelph and two of them against Gryphs Red.
Saturday, Gryphs Black are to play an Ontario Cup women’s under-21 quarter-final match against Oshawa Kicks who are 8-0-0 in OWSL Provincial U21 Central play. Game time at Centennial Bowl is 4 p.m.
Ontario Soccer League
The Guelph Gryphons lost for the seventh time in as many league outings as they were blanked 2-0 by HNNK Zagreb Thursday at Mississauga’s Brickyard Park.
Daniel Niksic and Ivica Sunjka scored the goals for league-leading Zagreb (5-0-1).
The Gryphs are to play Lakeshore United (3-3-1) July 14 at Clarkson Park in Mississauga.
Kitchener & District League
Banat FC 7 Guelph Gryphons Red suffered a 7-2 loss to Banat FC in league play at Kitchener.
Heather Kendall and Samantha Fowles scored the goals for Gryphs Red.
Courtney Swann and Evanthia Theofylatos hit for two goals apiece for Banat while single goals were added by Brittney Batista, Brooke Bettencourt and Rebecca Sanszole.
The result leaves Gryphs Red at 1-2-1 and Banat at 2-1-1.
The game was the first of three consecutive games between the teams. They’re to meet again July 14 at Marden Park at 7 p.m. and July 23 at Kitchener.
