GTP places three in top 10 in Barbados triathlon

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Three members of the Guelph Triathlon Project placed in the top 10 of the elite men’s category at the Bridgetown CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup and Central American and Caribbean Championship event Sunday.

GTP was formed after Triathlon Canada restructured its program and closed the Regional Triathlon Centre Guelph program earlier this year.

John Rasmussen of GTP was fourth at Bridgetown with a time of 58 minutes and 19 seconds. Clubmate Matthew Wright was eighth in his home country’s event in 59:00 and Taylor Forbes was 10th in 59:09.

Cesar Saracho of Mexico won in 57:55 and was followed by Brian Moya of Colombia in second in 58:04 and Matheus Diniz of Brazil third in 58:12.

Lindsey Jerdonek of the U.S. won the women’s race in 1:02:52.

Earlier this month GTP’s Dominika Jamnicky won the women’s race at Bermuda’s Hamilton CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup meet. She finished with a time of 1:02:28.

Kaitlin Donner of the U.S. was second in 1:02:53.

Rasmussen was fifth in the men’s race in 56:20 while Wright was eighth in 56:37 and GTP’s Karsten Madsen ninth in 56:50.

Eli Hemming of the U.S. won the men’s race in 55:14.
