Guelph CVI Green Gaels start field hockey season running

GUELPH — The Guelph CVI Green Gaels put themselves in the reckoning on the opening day of the District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey season when they won both of their games at the U of G’s Varsity Field.

The Gaels blanked the Wellington Heights Wolverines 7-0, then followed that with a 4-0 victory over the defending champion Bishop Macdonell Celtics.

 

Bishop Mac defeated Wellington Heights 4-0 in the other game.

Jordyn Farquharson struck for a hat trick for GC while Lorraine Vandermyden and Frances McKnight scored twice each. Lou Meloche picked up the shutout.

Christina Nadalin led Bishop Mac with a pair of goals while Julia Billings and Elizabeth Bueckert added single goals.

Jasmine Hasmatali tallied twice for GC while Sara Farquharson and Lorraine Vandermyden added single goals. Lou Meloche recorded her second shutout of the day.
