Guelph CVI, Ross to battle in D4/10 field hockey final
GUELPH — The Guelph CVI Green Gaels and Ross Royals are to meet to decide the District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey title Monday.
The Gaels and Royals advanced to the final with semifinal victories Wednesday.
Frances McKnight struck for both goals for the Gaels in a 2-0 victory over the Centre Wellington Falcons at the University of Guelph’s Varsity Field. Lou Meloche earned the shutout, her seventh in D4/10 play this season.
The Royals slipped by the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 2-1 on penalty strokes at Bishop Mac.
Kaleigh Boyd scored in regulation time for Ross while Sascha Woolcott scored the winner in penalty strokes.
Christina Nadalin had the goal for Bishop Mac.
Monday’s final is to be held at Varsity Field. Game time is 4 p.m.
The Gaels and Royals battled to a 1-1 standoff last week on the final day of the regular season. GCVI finished atop the league standings at 6-0-2 while Ross was second at 6-1-1.
