Guelph girls tame Mustangs for CWOSSA rugby titles

GUELPH – Guelph schools captured both CWOSSA girls’ rugby championship titles with victories Friday.

The Ross Royals claimed the AAA crown with a 31-7 victory over the Brantford CI Mustangs at Preston high school in Cambridge to win the title for the third consecutive year.

The Bishop Macdonell Celtics captured A/AA honours by edging the St. Mary’s Mustangs 18-17 at Owen Sound’s Victoria Park.

Christina Nadalin led the Celtics with 13 points while Janna Bannan had a try.

Both the Royals and Celtics advance to the OFSAA provincial high school rugby championship tournament. Both the A/AA and AAA titles are to be decided at Durham Region May 29 to 31.

Games in the provincial tournament are to be played at Ajax, Brooklin, Port Perry and Oshawa with the finals set for May 31 at Oshawa.
