Guelph Girls Winter Classic set for this weekend
GUELPH – A total of 85 teams are entered to compete in this weekend’s Guelph Girls Winter Classic Hockey Tournament.
The tournament is to start Thursday with a pair of games at the Gryphon Centre. Other arenas that will be used are the Sleeman Centre, Centennial arena, West End arena, Victoria Road arena and Exhibition arena. All have their first tournament games Friday.
The tournament features play in 11 divisions with the host Guelph Girls Hockey Association Junior Gryphons represented in all of them but midget BB. There’ll be local interest in that division as the Grand River Mustangs from Centre Wellington are in it.
The other divisions are novice B, atom A, atom B, peewee A, peewee B, bantam A, bantam BB, bantam B, midget A and intermediate A.
There’ll by four U.S. teams in the tournament: Chicago Fury in peewee A, Chicago Bruins in bantam A, Detroit Honeybaked in midget A and Kensington Valley Ravens of Michigan in intermediate A.
Other associations represented in the tournament are Ancaster Avalanche, Aurora Panthers, Ayr Rockets, Burlington Barracudas, Caledon Coyotes, Cambridge Roadrunners, Chatham Outlaws, Clarington Flames, Flamborough Falcons, Hamilton Hawks, Kanata Rangers, King Cavalry, Kingston Ice Wolves, Kitchener Lady Rangers, Lambeth Lancers, Lambton Attack, London Devilettes, Mississauga Chiefs, Mount Brydges Cougars, Mount Forest Rams, Napanee Crunch, Niagara Rapids, North Halton Twisters, North Simcoe Capitals, Orangeville Tigers, Ottawa Ice, Ottawa Valley Thunder, Owen Sound Ice Hawks, Saugeen Maitland Lightning, Southpoint Stars, St. Catharines Brock Junior Badgers, St. Thomas Panthers, Stoney Creek Sabres, Stratford Aces, Sudbury Lady Wolves, Vaughan Flames, Walkerton Capitals, Waterloo Ravens, Wilmot Wolverines, Windsor Wildcats, Woodstock Wildcats and Woolwich Wild.
All finals are set for Sunday with most of them being played at the West End arena.
