Guelph Storm nipped by Bulldogs
GUELPH – A goal by Connor Roberts with 59 seconds to play in the third period proved to be the winner as the Hamilton Bulldogs edged the Guelph Storm 3-2 in Ontario Hockey League preseason play Thursday night at the Sleeman Centre.
The Storm’s Barret Kirwin scored his second of the game 30 seconds after that goal, but the hosts couldn’t pull even.
After a scoreless first period, Arthur Kaliyev put Hamilton ahead in the second minute of the second period before Kirwin tied it on a power play eight and a half minutes later.
The Bulldogs went ahead for good on Liam Van Loon’s goal at 13:39 of the third.
Owen Lalonde assisted on both of Kirwin’s goals while Cedric Ralph and Matt Hotchkiss each had one assist.
Will Bitten, Connor Walters, Dylan D’Agostino and Ben Garagan had assists for Hamilton.
Cole Ceci stopped 31 shots to pick up the win in net for Hamilton while Nico Daws made 26 saves in the Storm’s net.
The result was the third one-goal game of the Storm’s preseason as they have two wins, both in shootouts over the Mississauga Steelheads, and two losses, both to Hamilton.
The Bulldogs haven’t played anyone other than the Storm who are to complete their preseason Saturday with a game against the Peterborough Petes. Game time at the Sleeman Centre is 7 p.m.
The Storm are to open their regular season Sept. 22 with a game against the Sarnia Sting at 7:30 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
