Guelph, York field hockey women tie another one on

GUELPH — The Guelph Gryphons and York Lions tied for the second time in five days as they battled to a 1-1 standoff in OUA women’s field hockey play Wednesday night at Varsity field.

Alexa Corrado opened the scoring for Guelph with the lone goal of the first half.

York tied it on a second-half goal by Michelle Per.

The teams had also tied 2-2 in league play at Kingston Saturday.

The Gryphs lead the seven-team league with a 7-0-2 record while the Toronto Varsity Blues are second at 7-1-0 and York is third at 4-1-2.

Guelph has three games to go in its regular season. The Gryphs are to host the Western Mustangs Oct. 12, then play the Varsity Blues at Toronto Oct. 20 and the Queen’s Gaels at Toronto Oct. 23.

The league’s championship tournament is set for Oct. 28-30 at Western while Toronto is to host the CIS national championship tournament Nov. 3-6.
