Hespeler Shamrocks drop preseason match to Paris
PARIS – The Hespeler Shamrocks were handed a 4-1 setback by the Paris Mounties in Provincial Junior Hockey League preseason play Saturday afternoon at the Brant Sports Complex.
The Mounties scored three times in the second period after a scoreless first period. The teams scored once apiece in the third.
Joseph Tabet had the lone goal for Hespeler while Ryley Smith had an assist.
Jay Dekker scored twice for Paris while Ben Hipkin and Jack Gee added single goals. Assists were awarded to Kyle Yetman with two and Connor Merritt, Hayden Butler, Ethan Habel, Hipkin and Cameron Stokes with one apiece.
Connor Pickard played two periods in the Hespeler nit while Seth Monkhouse played the third. They combined to stop 36 shots.
Jackson Fowler was in the Paris net for two periods and Richard Johnson was in net for the third period. They stopped 21 shots.
The Shamrocks are preparing for their first season in the PJHL since relocating from Simcoe where they played last season as the Storm.
The Shamrocks are 0-2-1 in their preseason that they’re to wrap up with another game against the Paris Mounties at the Brant Sports Complex Sunday at 1 p.m.
Hespeler is to open its regular season against the Dunnville Junior Mudcats Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Dunnville arena.
