Host Predators get six wins in ringette tournament Friday

GUELPH – Guelph Predators teams collected six victories Friday on the first full day of the annual Guelph Ringette Association tournament.

Host Predators also had two ties and were defeated 10 times.

The University of Guelph Gryphons had a loss and a tie in their outings while the Elora-Fergus Edge had four losses.

The tournament continues Saturday and is to wrap up Sunday.

 

Guelph Predators

U9

The Predators split their games, beating Richmond Hill 11-4 and losing 10-7 to Whitby.

Owen Elgbacka and Megan Hancock each were credited four goals in the win over Richmond Hill while Kirpal Chane had a hat trick and Payton Dodd-Craig scored once. Annabelle Smith assisted on four of the goals while Elgbacka, Chane, Isabelle Lemelin, Katie McElwain and Alexa Whale each had two assists and Hancock, Kinsey Almquist and Kali Gonsalves had one each.

Isabelle Lemelin hit for three goals in the loss to Whitby while Kirpal Chane scored twice and Megan Hancock and Annabelle Smith each had one goal. Owen Elgbacka collected two assists while Chane, Ffion Anthony, Payton Dodd-Craig and Kali Gonsalves had one each.

 

U10

The Predators also split their games, winning 8-1 over Burlington and losing by the same score to Oshawa.

Grace Hendry rifled home four goals in the win while Audrey Beattie had three, Mary Duffy-Lazzari two and Anna Kelly and Aviva Smith one each. Getting two assists apiece were Hendry, Duffy-Lazzari, Grace Moynihan and Alison Wright while Beattie, Kelly, Smith, Julia Abraham and Bella Chappel had one each.

Audrey Beattie scored the goal against Oshawa with help from Bella Chappel and Mary Duffy-Lazzari.

 

U14 R

The Predators suffered a pair of losses as they were downed 8-3 by Burlington and blanked 5-0 by Caledonia.

Brianna Blaymires, Olivia Chappel and Abby Leclerc scored against Burlington while Ella Peterson assisted on two of the goals and Cassidy Richardson assisted on one.

 

U14 A

The Predators also downed twice as they were doubled 4-2 by Waterloo and dropped 10-4 by West Ferris.

Rachel Hancock and Kate Richmond scored against Waterloo while Ava Fries assisted on both goals and Mavis Carberry and Mikaela Kemper each had one assist.

Olivia House had two goals against West Ferris and Sara Brown and Rachel Hancock scored once each. Assists went to Sara Brown, Hancock, Aoife Brown, Ava Fries, Mikaela Kemper and Kelly Wallace.

 

U14 AA

The Predators scored a pair of wins as they doubled Richmond Hill 6-3 and downed Metcalfe 7-1.

Gabrielle Jauvin, Mackenzie Kovats, Rosie McDougall, Ava Forbes-Schnick, Skylar Lina and Campbell Schnurr scored the goals against Richmond Hill. Jauvin had two assists while Kovats and McDougall had one each.

Rosie McDougall had a hat trick against Metcalfe and Mackenzie Kovats followed with two goals. Gabrielle Jauvin and Campbell Schnurr also scored while Marin Storey had two assists and McDougall, Kovats, Jauvin, Schnurr, Ava Forbes-Schnick, Skylar Lina and Sarah Storey had one each.

 

U16A

The Predators battled Ajax to a 6-6 standoff and lost 7-0 to Timmins.

Olivia Copeman scored four times against Ajax while Ashlyn Weins and Meghan Hawkes added single goals. Weins, Cerys Mochan and Mackenzie Tucker each had two assists while Hawkes, Olivia Curtis and Jessica Robinson had one each.

 

U16 AA

The Predators were edged 7-6 by Mississauga in their lone game of the day.

Jaden Hounsell had two goals while Abby Auger, Bronte Bilton, Lauren Bilton and Rilee Devries each had one goal. Assists were awarded to Auger, Bronte Bilton, Lauren Bilton, Devries, Julia Mezenberg, Kaitlyn Sharpe and Samantha Tracey.

 

U19A

The Predators split their games as they blanked Sault Ste. Marie 3-0 and wee edged 3-2 by West Ferris.

Lindsey Carson, Alexa Ferraccioli and Mackenzie Kuntz scored against Sault Ste. Marie. Carson had two assists and Laina Carberry and Samantha Hood had one each.

Morgan Kirk and Bailey Zulkosky had unassisted goals against West Ferris.

 

U19 AA

The Predators had a win and a tie against out-of-province opponents as they defeated Regina 5-3 and tied Manitoba Magic 5-5.

Mel Hatch scored twice against Regina while Claire Wyville, Danielle McIntosh and Liza Knill added single goals. Assists went to Hatch, Wyville and Ainsleigh Wedrow.

Claire Wyville and Marlee Allen netted two goals apiece against Manitoba Magic while Liza Knill scored the other goal. Erika Nevbrand collected three assists while Wyville and Lauren Eccles had two apiece and Hilary Davidson and Ainsleigh Wedrow had one each.

 

18+ B

The Predators White were defeated 8-5 by Halton in their lone game of the day.

Sarah Pezzano tallied twice while Nikki Bisbee, Michelle Conlon and Meghan Purdie also scored. Kyla Huck had two assists and Bisbee and Kelly Barnes had one each.

 

 

Guelph Gryphons

18+ A

The Gryphons tied Ajax 3-3 and were nipped 3-2 by the Carleton Ravens.

Tara Jensen had two goals against Ajax while Grace Dutra had the other goal. Gillian Marrow collected two assists while Mikala Baker, Maggie Kiernan, Michelle Thompson and Britney Zacharuk had one each.

Gillian Marrow and Katelyn Desgagne scored against Carleton while assists went to Marrow and Lauren Cole.

 

 

Elora-Fergus Edge

U14 A

The Edge suffered a pair of losses as they were shut out 3-0 by Burlington and edged 5-4 by Timmins.

Grace Ashdown, Ciara Shanahan, Emma Wilson and Grace Weber had a goal each against Timmins. Assists were awarded to Ashdown, Shanahan, Wilson, Rachel Jennings and Allie Oelschlagel.

 

U16R

The Edge was handed two losses as they were nipped 3-2 by Cambridge and tripled 9-3 by Goderich.

Nylah Christie-Smith and Josephine Richardson scored against Cambridge. Rylee Jefferson assisted on two of the goals while Christie-Smith and Jaeden Shoemaker each had one assist.

Lois Bowley, Nylah Christie-Smith and Jacob Stirbet had a goal each against Goderich while assists went to Tamara Burch, Madison Hill, Emily Morris, Josephine Richardson and Jaeden Shoemaker.
