Jr. Varsity Jr. Gryphs downed by Cumberland

OTTAWA – The Guelph Junior Varsity Junior Gryphons finished their Ontario Provincial Football League junior varsity season Saturday with a 54-10 loss to the Cumberland Panthers.

The Junior Gryphs finished sixth in the West Division at 0-8-0 while Cumberland was second in the East at 5-3-0.

The Panthers had 350 yards passing and 100 yards rushing while the Junior Gryphs had 69 yards passing and 49 yards rushing.

Daniel Brown completed seven of 18 passes for the Junior Gryphs. Hadi El-Miari caught four passes for 47 yards and Cory Pryce caught two for 23 yards. Kyle Ilczyna caught the other pass.

Brown also had three carries for 34 yards rushing including one for a touchdown while Teo Jean-Gaston had five carries for 13 yards.

Thomas Ness returned four kickoffs for 45 yards while five teammates returned one kickoff apiece for a total of 46 yards.

Ben Lane had five punts for 90 yards and he kicked a field goal and a convert.

Defensively, Luis Alfieri had five tackles while Nathan Dixon had four and an interception.
