Junior Gryphon bantams take Pittsburgh tourney

PITTSBURGH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons won four consecutive games to capture the bantam A championship of the Pittsburgh Fall Classic hockey tournament on the weekend.

The Junior Gryphs blanked the Pineville Falcons of North Carolina 4-0 in Sunday’s championship game.

The Junior Gryphs had finished atop the standings in the four-team round-robin, allowing a single goal in three games.

The locals opened with a 9-0 win over the Ann Arbor Wolverines of Michigan Friday and followed that with a pair of wins Saturday – 5-1 over Pineville and 6-0 over the Exton Kings of Pennsylvania.

Pineville had finished second in the round-robin with two wins and a loss. The Falcons defeated Exton 5-2 and Ann Arbor 7-1.
