Junior Gryphons to battle for Ontario Football League titles

GUELPH — A pair of Guelph Junior Gryphons teams are to compete in Ontario Football League championships Saturday at the Jacob Hespeler fields.

The Junior Gryphon tykes are to tangle with the Brantford Bisons at 8:30 a.m. while the atom MD squad is to take on the Toronto Jets at 12:45 p.m.

The tykes marched undefeated through their regular season with eight victories. They outscored their opponents 209-49 to advance to the semifinals where they slipped by Cambridge Lions Red 38-32 last weekend. Brantford also won all eight of its regular-season games, outscoring the opposition 253-74 before defeating Hamilton Junior Ticats 36-25 in the semifinals.

The atom MDs also won all eight of their regular-season games, outscoring their opponents 338-63.

Toronto was 6-2 in the regular season and scored 262 points while yielding 60.

In the semifinals, the Junior Gryphs defeated Brantford Bisons Two 18-6 while Toronto downed Twin Cities Warhawks 24-15.

The Junior Gryphs started their season with a 15-13 win over Toronto Aug. 27.
