Junior Gryphs claim OMHA novice Central AA crown

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons captured the Ontario Minor Hockey Association novice Central AA title Saturday with a 6-0 victory over Barrie at the West End arena.

The victory gave the Junior Gryphs a 6-0 win in the series.

The Junior Gryphs, who were finalists in the category last year, scored four times in the first period on their way to the win. Their fifth goal came in the opening minute of the second while the other goal was scored in the third.

The locals had won the other games in the series by 2-1 and 3-0 scores.

The Junior Gryphs marched undefeated through the playoffs, winning 15 consecutive games to claim the title.

In OMHA minor atom AE1-2 play Saturday, the Junior Gryphs were edged 2-1 by Barrie at Barrie’s Holly Recreation Centre in the first game of the championship series. Game 2 is set for Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at West End arena.

In OMHA bantam AE2 play Saturday at Barrie’s Holly Recreation Centre, Barrie tied the series 2-2 with a 3-2 victory. Game 3 is slated for Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Victoria Road arena.

Peterborough opened the OMHA minor midget AE1-2 final with a 3-2 victory in overtime Saturday at West End arena. The teams are to meet again Sunday at the Gryphon Centre at 3:30 p.m.

The Junior Gryphs pulled even with Niagara Falls in their Tri-County tyke 4 final with a 4-2 victory Saturday at the West End arena. That result squares the series at 2-2. Game 3 is to go Sunday at 4 p.m. at Niagara Falls.

The Junior Gryphs were handed a 4-2 setback Saturday at the West End arena in the opening game of the Tri-County novice Harrison final. The teams are to play Sunday at 6 p.m. at Caledon.

Oakville grabbed a 4-0 lead in the Tri-County minor atom Smith final with a 6-5 victory Saturday at West End arena. Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. at Oakville.

 

Centre Wellington Fusion

The Fusion finished a sweep of the Tri-County minor atom Bowen final with a 3-2 victory over Oakville Saturday at the Elora and District Community Centre.

The Fusion had won six consecutive games in group play to gain their berth in the final.

Centre Wellington opened the OMHA peewee AE2 final with a 3-0 win over Barrie Saturday at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex. Second game of the series is set for Sunday at 5 p.m. at Barrie’s East Bayfield complex.

Orangeville jumped ahead 4-2 in their OMHA novice Central AE2 final with the Fusion by scoring a 6-0 victory Saturday at Orangeville’s Alder Street arena. Next game in the series is set for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

 

Erin-Hillsburgh Devils

The Devils opened the OMHA midget BB final with a 6-2 victory over Collingwood Saturday at the Erin Centre 2000 arena.

The teams are to play again Sunday at 6 p.m. at Collingwood’s Eddie Bush arena.
