Lions advance to D4/10 baseball semifinals

GUELPH – The St. James Lions advanced to the District 4/10 high schools baseball league’s semifinals with a 7-3 quarter-final victory over the Lourdes Crusaders Thursday at Pearson Park.

Nick Bombino and Noah Campagnolo each had two hits and an RBI for St. James while Campagnolo scored a run on a throwing error. Ethan Dennie hit a triple and drove in a run while Nathaniel Maw and Caleb Bowles each also registered a hit and RBI and Nick Lo Stracco had a hit. Aden Piotto had a sacrifice bunt and he scored on an error and Carter Keleher also scored on an error.

Keleher surrendered two runs in four innings on the mound and he had four strikeouts. Lo Stracco pitched three innings and yielded a run. He had five strikeouts.

Tyler Stoltz hit a double and had an RBI for Lourdes while Matteo Roque had a hit, Eric Blaumer had a bunt single and Bradley Fraser had a hit and RBI.

St. James advances to play the Ross Royals in the semifinals. That game is set for Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Hastings Stadium.

The other semifinal pits the Bishop Macdonell Celtics against the Guelph CVI Green Gaels Monday at 3:15 p.m. at Pearson Park.
