Locals unbeaten at lacrosse qualifiers

WHITBY – Three local teams are undefeated following the first weekend of the two-weekend Ontario Lacrosse Association peewee, bantam and midget A qualifying tournament.

Both the Guelph Regals and Centre Wellington Mohawks posted 3-0-0 records in peewee play while the Regals are 2-0-1 in midget. Centre Wellington is also 1-1-1 in bantam. Guelph is not represented in bantam and Centre Wellington is not represented in midget.

In peewee, the Regals defeated Orangeville 3-0, Halton Hills 6-1 and Six Nations 6-3. They’re tied for first in Pool B with Kitchener with 3-0-0 records. Halton Hills is third at 2-1-0 while Akwesasne, Peterborough, Orangeville at Oakville are each at 1-2-0 and Six Nations is at 0-3-0.

Centre Wellington downed Brampton 5-3, Nepean 4-1 and Clarington 4-2 and are alone in first in Pool A. They’re followed by Whitby at 1-0-2, St. Catharines at 2-1-0, Mimico and Oshawa at 1-1-1, Clarington and Brampton at 1-2-0 and Nepean at 0-3-0.

In midget, Guelph defeated Peterborough 8-2 and St. Catharines 7-0 and tied Orangeville 6-6.

The Regals are third in Pool B, Nepean and Six Nations are both at 3-0-0 while Akwesasne and Orangeville are both at 1-1-1. Peterborough’s at 0-2-1 and St. Catharines and London are both at 0-2-0.

Oakville leads Pool A at 3-0-0 and is followed by Whitby, Windsor, Barrie and Hamilton at 2-1-0, Mimico and Halton Hills at 0-2-1 and Wallaceburg at 0-3-0.

In bantam, Centre Wellington lost 6-0 to Orangeville, tied St. Catharines 4-4 and beat Clarington 6-4.

The Mohawks are fourth in Pool A. Brampton leads at 3-0-0 and Orangeville and Mimico are both at 2-1-0. Clarington, Burlington and Sarnia are each at 1-2-0 and St. Catharines is at 0-2-1.

Nepean leads Pool B at 3-0-0 while Oakville and Peterborough are both at 2-0-1, Whitby, Akwesasne, Halton Hills and Kitchener are each at 1-2-0 and Newmarket is at 0-3-0.

Play resumes in all three divisions July 21 to 23 at Whitby.

In peewee, Guelph is to play Peterborough, Akwesasne, Oakville and Kitchener while Centre Wellington is to play Mimico, St. Catharines, Oshawa and Whitby.

In bantam, Centre Wellington is to play Sarnia, Burlington, Brampton and Mimico.

In midget, Guelph is to play Six Nations, London, Nepean and Akwesasne.

Top three in each pool advance to the provincial championship Ontario Lacrosse Festival at Whitby Aug. 4 to 13.
