Madden, Best claim silver medals at Pan Am U20s

TRUJILLO, Peru – Speed River Track and Field Club teammates Kyle Madden and Ashlan Best captured silver medals Sunday on the final day of the Pan American U20 Track and Field Championships.

Madden finished with a time quicker than the meet record that stood at the start of the men’s 1,500 metres race as he completed the distance in 3:44.19.

However, that record fell 1.03 seconds before Madden finished when Eric Van Der Els of the U.S. crossed the line to win gold.

Cooper Teare of the U.S. was third in 3:46.46.

Best won her second relay medal of the meet as she was part of the Canadian team that finished second in the women’s 4x400m relay in 3:33.19. The U.S. won in 3:28.57, a meet record.

Joining Best on the team were Xahria Santiago, Victoria Tachinski and Kyra Constantine.

Best returns home with a medal of each hue as she had earlier won gold in the women’s 200m and bronze in the women’s 4x100m relay.
