Marlins win 10 medals at Summer Provincials

SCARBOROUGH – Members of the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club captured 10 medals at Swim Ontario’s 2017 summer provincial long-course championships on the weekend at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

Russell Burton won five medals in the boys’ 13-and-under class, four of them gold. He took the provincial titles in the 100-metre backstroke (1:01.02), 100m butterfly (59.56), 100m freestyle (56.42) and 100m breaststroke (1:11.12). He was also second in the 50m freestyle (26.32).

Abigail McDonald captured three medals in the girls’ 16 class, one of each hue. She won the 100m breaststroke in 1:13.14, was second in the 200m breaststroke in 2:38.10 and was third in the 400m individual medley in 5:03.21. She was also eighth in the 100m backstroke in 1:07.56.

Gabby Baird won the other two medals as she was second in the para girls’ 100m butterfly in 1:36.97 and third in the 100m freestyle in 1:15.77.

Sydney Conrad finished sixth in the girls’ 14’s 100m backstroke in 1:08.69 and seventh in 100m butterfly in 1:07.19.

Emma Ball was sixth in the girls’ 17-and-over’s 100m butterfly in 1:03.07.

Katie Berwick placed seventh in the girls’ 15’s 200m freestyle in 2:11.10.

The results helped the Marlins finish 22nd in the team standings with 281 points. Etobicoke Swimming won at 3,484.5.
