Mielzynski wins Panorama Nor-Am Cup slalom

PANORAMA, B.C. — Erin Mielzynski of Guelph won the Nor-Am Cup women’s slalom race at Panorama Wednesday.

Mielzynski, a Bishop Macdonell graduate, completed the event with a two-run time of one minute, 28.0 seconds to finish two seconds ahead of Ali Nullmeyer of Toronto, silver medalist in the event at the Youth Olympic Games at Lillehammer, Norway, in February.

Amelia Smart of Invermere, B.C., was third in 1:30.9 while Paula Moltzan of Lakeville, Minn., was fourth in 1:31.0 and Laurence St. Germain of Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges, Que., was fifth in 1:31.5.

There is another Nor-Am Cup women’s slalom Friday and women’s giant slaloms Saturday and Sunday.

For Mielzynski, the win came three days after she was 21st in a World Cup women’s slalom race at Sestriere, Italy. She finished the event as the top Canadian with a two-run total time of 1:42.2.

Mikaela Shiffrin of the U.S. won in 1:37.8 while Veronika Velez Zuzulova of Slovakia was second in 1:38.9 and Wendy Holdener of Switzerland was third in 1:39.0.
