Millar/Dixson claim Champions Grand Prix title
ROCKWOOD – Ian Millar rode Dixson to victory Saturday night in the $86,000 The Champions Grand Prix at Angelstone Tournaments.
Dixson/Millar was the lone combination of the five who made it through to the jump-off to have a clear run in the extra round. They finished the jump-off in 39.753 seconds after being second fastest of the fault-free group in the first round.
Leslie Howard guided Donna Speciale to second with four faults and a 35.579-second run through the jump-off course and she also rode Gentille Van Spieveld to fourth with four faults and a time of 43.376 seconds.
Angelstone’s Keean White and Corette were third with four faults and a time of 37.429 seconds.
Erynn Ballard and Royale Du Rouet were fifth with eight faults and a trip of 41.914 seconds.
A total of 21 horse/rider combinations competed in the feature event of The Champions meet.
The meet concludes Sunday. Main event Sunday is the Sunday Classic set for 11 a.m.
The meet is the first of three consecutive meets at Angelstone. They host The National Aug. 23 to 27 and The International Aug. 30 to Sept. 3 to wrap up their season.
